Golden Kaleidoscope: Loving Me For Me.

Loving Me For Me.

Plus is Equal

As an over developed teenager, trying to love my body was next to impossible. Everyone around me was a size 4, while I was already wearing misses sizes. Even though I was extremely active, and healthy, I always felt my body was working against me. I remember how I wanted to be so called “normal” sized, so I’d fit in with the smaller girls.

For years I hated my body, and tried to conform to other people’s ideas of what my body should be.  Now, I refuse to hide or be ashamed.  We give way too much power to others when it comes to our bodies. It’s your body not theirs. You decided what you want to do. If you’re fat, be fat and love it! If you’re small love it too. And if you don’t like your body, change it because YOU want to change it, not because some small minded person advised you to do so. That’s why I love the body positive movement. It’s such an amazing time to be a plus size woman. So many positive role models big and small, encouraging women to love themselves in a world encouraging us to hate who we are.

Lane Bryant is one of the companies helping to change society’s views of plus size women. I remember having to wear Lane Bryant growing up, and being so embarrassed. I was always thankful for finding items from their store that fit me, but I wanted to fit in. Most of the items were outdated or something my mother would (and did) wear.  However, over the past few years, Lane Bryant has started to really pay attention to their customers, and the plus size community. I actually find myself going on Lane Bryant’s website and finding multiple pieces that I absolutely love! I never thought I would say that. Many of their items are fashion forward, trendy, and hug your curves in all the right places. I’m truly astounded by how far they’ve come and am excited to see what else they will come up with next. Here are some Lane Bryant pieces I styled. I hope you like them just as much as I do!

  3. I could not appear in public in any of these outfits because each would call attention to me or at least I'd feel like my outfit was shouting "here I am so look at me." It's alright for me to not want to wear these outfits. The lady in the article is a beautiful woman.

  6. Wish these were around 30 years ago. Now at 55 I don't think they would work. But I do say the model is gorgeous.

  7. If you have no health issues (i.e. blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc). and you weren't born into a family with health issues, I say knock yourself out and love your body and yourself.

  8. Just work hard enough to be what you want to be. However what you eat plays a dominant role in how you look.

  11. Well, they are moving in the right direction. My issue has been lack of classy clothing for work. And none of the above outfits would be something I could wear to work.

    1. Hi Mickey, I'm in same situation. Love the clothes and wish they had been there when younger. The styles don't fit my current career and age today. You didn't mention size looking for, but I'm size 26 usually (depends on manufacturer) and have found J.Jill and Coldwater Creek good options. Sometimes Catherine's but lot of their clothing is still for "mature" dresser.

    1. Can you please post your replies without so many periods in your "sentence"? For those of us who actually read things the way that the punctuation implies, it causes us to stop. After. Every. Word or two. It gets very annoying and hard to follow. Thanks, sorry to nit pick! :-)

  15. Were the white jeans ripped when you bought them or did you do that. Those green pants look ridiculously small and the dress is way too small in my opinion.

    2. Do you walk up to every woman in the mall and tell her everything you don't like that she's wearing? Giving an opinion is one thing but damn, woman.

    Love yourself in any size!
    Size doesn't define you.
    You define YOU!

  18. I think this is fabulous and I'm so glad that we are being taught to love our bodies and not try to hide them in oversized, unattractive clothing. The outfits are very fashionable and very fashion forward. It appears that there are some people (based on their opinions here) are stuck in the "we don't like 'fat' girls" mindset. Some people are very much afraid of change. Some people embrace it, arms wide open. Learning to love yourself, in spite of what is told to you, is something to behold. I'm a few months shy of 50, and even though I work out 5 days a week, I understand my body and know I will never (nor have I ever been) a size 2. I'm almost 6' tall and solidly built. And finally, FINALLY, I can look in the mirror and love what I see... Flab, wrinkles, muscle tone, graying hair... the works. I am beautiful, no matter what you say... Pay it forward and leave the naysayers wondering wth just happened... :-))) - acwhite77

  19. They don't have a choice especially with stores like Torrid. For years Lane a Bryant had moo moo designs and if it weren't for Torrid they'd probably still have them.

  20. As a man, I damn sure dont have any problems with the way she is built. I would love to have her at my side.

  21. She is definitely beautiful but all she has done is to show that big girls can dress beautifully as well. Instead of wearing that looks awkward dresses should be chosen on what makes you look good not what makes a celebrity look good. That said in no way this should encourage such obesity. Healthy lifestyle starts with healthy body and though she seems very fit mentally she still need to lose a lot of weight.

  22. I just read the post on buzz feed with you and I just wanted to say my first thoughts were "WOW she looks amazing, I wish I could look like that!"

I love that you are inspiring other women whether they're plus size or not.

You're fabulous, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
