Golden Kaleidoscope: 2014

I'm fat and attractive, you should date me….I think.

You want me??? Are you sure??

YES! Ladies, let’s sit down and talk about a very important topic; men and/or women being attracted to you.  I remember the first time a person, one whom I never thought would be attracted to me, approached me.  I was with a group of my friends and was dressed to the T! I had my high heels on, and my hair and makeup were on point. We were laughing and drinking when this guy approached us.  He said “Hey” to everyone, and made eye contact with me. He asked my name, and if I’d like a drink.  I literally thought he was talking to someone else, so not only did I lean to the side to be sure, but I also looked around to see who else he could’ve been talking to. My
friends laughed, and told me he was talking to me. The next sentence out of my mouth was, “Are you sure?” He said, “I think so, unless you’re crazy.”

Golden Confidence

Tips for the everyday woman.

Madeline Jones from Plus Model Magazine was kind enough to let me share some of my Golden Confidence tips in the new Love Your Body issue. I've decided to share a few of them below:

Pretty In Pink

Little Miss Sunshine

Growing up I was the biggest tomboy. I wore gym shorts and my hair in ponytails from elementary, through high school. I played sports, including football for a little while. My mom would beg me to wear dresses and let my hair down, but it wasn't happening. Me in curls on the basketball court? LOL, no!

Devil In A Red Dress!

You Hussy!

I remember growing up the color red was seen as a "fast" or "hoe" color. I'm laughing as I write this. I can hear the older church women talking about some, hussy in the red dress(insert “Mmm hmm,” and “Jesus,” here LOL). After hearing that from them, and other women, I've always shied away from the sultry color.  No red lipstick, no red dresses… especially, no red nail polish.

No more excuses! Some of us have the self-destructive habit of putting others before ourselves. We push our dreams and aspirations to the side in order to please others. While, some of us make up excuses in order to block ourselves from pursuing our passions, because we are afraid of failure. When do we start going after what we want? What is it that makes us encourage our friend’s dreams but push our own to the side?

Electric Avenue

Why blend in when you were born to stand out!

It’s officially Leo season, the best sign on the planet (that fact is not up for debates or discussion)!  My birthday will be here in a few weeks, and I had to kick it off with something bright and electric. I don’t know about you, but I've become obsessed with all things neon. My closet is full of neon maxi skirts, dresses, and tops.

You're only bold online...

Social Media Confidence vs Real World Confidence

You take pictures for the likes in swimsuits, bodycon, crop tops… you name it. You post it to every social media site and BOOM—you're loved all over the web! But, what happens when the phone and computer are off, and you're in the real world?

Ask yourself, do you still feel good about who you are off-line?  Are you still confident when you hear comments and feel judgmental stares from strangers? Do you think confidence and love can be found in a clothing item? Do you know that it’s ok to not be confident every single day? That confidence is something that has to be worked on daily?

Are you looking at bloggers and models as inspiration or people to copy?

Nothing is original.

"Steal from something that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination."-Jim Jarmusch

Let's be honest, we're all inspired by other people's fashion. There's nothing wrong with being inspired,as long as it is not a direct copy, and you're making it your own! I was inspired to wear this neon green kimono, after seeing my friends, Ivory Jinelle, and Candace Nelson, wear their kimonos with pants, and skirts (check out their awesome sites).  Who doesn't like a long train? Are you a fan of the kimono trend?

Summertime Fine

I know my title is cheesy, but admit it, you love it! Anyways, I just got back from my mini vacation in Miami and Orlando, and already I miss it dearly!  Seventy degree weather, drinks, no clothes, and overflowing sunshine! Sigh... I'll get over being back in this weird NYC weather soon  enough. The sun managed to come out the other day, so I put on my best, I-miss-my-vacation-so-I'm-pretending-I'm-still-there, outfit (LOL!).

Here I am

"If they hadn't told me I was ugly, I never would have searched for my beauty. And if they hadn't tried to break me down, I wouldn't have known that I'm unbrekable."-Gabourey Sidibe

I Wanna Thank You!

"Spread Love it's the Brooklyn way."-B.I.G.

I really don't have to much to say. I just wanted to tell you guys thank you for all of the love you've shown me lately. At times I wonder if anyone understands my style. Hell, I don't understand my style. Either way, thank you for every kind word and well wish. It means more to me than words can express. Please continue to inspire me just as much as I inspire you. God Bless!

Boy Bye!

I'm Pretty Period!

As women we all hear those so called compliments that we hate.  The back handed kind that are given to us if we are deemed too short, too tall, too skinny or too fat.

Flower Child.

"You're a flower child, beautiful child I'm in ya zone. Looking like you came from the 70's on ya own"-Drake

Hellooooooooooo Spring! I'm so happy to see warmer weather even if it does come with rain. Nothing says spring like floral and bright colors! Yes, I'm wearing my hat again. I don't know why I love it so much. It just goes with everything.

You're so basic!

Another Bodycon Dress?

My left boob is bigger than my right, so I'm always checking to make sure they're even! lol (TMI,judge me!)

My friends and I talk about fashion all the time. One topic that always comes up is the overload of bodycon dresses seen from bloggers and fellow plus size women. I LOVE a bold print bodycon dress. It's one of the few items that look amazing on me.

However, some of my fashionista friends stay far away from bodycon dresses. They say it's too simple, so basic, or typical plus size wear. We occasionally shake our heads at the overload of mesh and cut out dresses that show our spanx and at backless bodycon dresses that show it all.

Madeline The Brave!

Body diversity, yes. Ethnic diversity, no?

Plus Model Magazine's first ever "All Black" issue. Shot by Lucas Pictures

When I heard Plus Model Mag was coming out with an all-black issue I was pleasantly surprised. However, I was not surprised when I heard there was some serious backlash and pushback. Growing up, I didn’t see many black women in fashion, especially not in plus size. Then I saw the beautiful Mia Amber in a major advertisement and I couldn't believe my eyes.  Here was someone with my skin tone and body shape who looked absolutely stunning and graceful. There was hope!

Express Yourself!

"To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong."-Joseph Chilton Pearce

Everyone is creative. As children we fearlessly danced to songs, colored outside of the lines, wore a superman cape to the grocery store, and should've won Oscars for tearful performances of barely there scratches. When did expressing your personal style become "wrong"?

When they reminisce over you.

The best thing about memories is making them.

"Back in the day when things were cool
We used to meet up with these dudes
Then we'd roll out on hopes and truths
And would ride around the park till its after dark
Pumpin' the trunk with the windows rolled up"-Erykah Badu
