Golden Kaleidoscope: Be Blessed...Not really.

Be Blessed...Not really.

Backhanded compliments!

Most of the time I receive nice comments under my pictures like, “Yassss girl, kill it,” or “yayy for big thighs,” and all types of nice words and phrases of encouragement. Then there are the occasional few commenters who tell me that I’m such a beautiful woman, so I don’t have to show so much, wear dresses that are tight, or wear things that scream I’m seeking attention from the opposite sex. After giving me such “helpful” suggestions they then say, “God bless,” “be blessed,” or , “I’m just trying to help you.”  Normally, I wouldn’t address this, but I see this happen often in the plus-size community, and from women to women in general. It is irritating the way women throw around their mean judgments, and unsolicited expert opinions.

Normally, these comments are coming from insecure women with little to no fashion sense. Why do they feel the need to give back handed compliments and then try to bless their messiness?  Our community is blossoming, fashion-wise, and is encouraging women to express themselves with new and creative styles.  For some it is their first time embracing any sense of fashion at all. Knocking people for exploring their fashion depths is not helpful. There are a lot of outfits that I don’t agree with, some outfits make me cringe (lol!). But, I would never, and I mean NEVER, go under someone’s picture and tell them they don’t look nice, their clothes are too revealing, or give any other unhelpful suggestions, because I feel like I’m some expert. That is not my place, and it’s not yours either!  This tight revealing outfit is pretty much a FUCK YOU post! I can wear whatever the hell I want! I can be as simple, sexy, boring, classy, or as class-less as I want to be. My body, my choice, and my fashion is my freedom!

Maybe, we should all follow the advice of our elementary school teachers. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all. This post was inspired by my friend Kelly (Check out her blog here). Love you girl, keep offending! Super special thanks to Kitty k Free for all of your help. Check out her page, shes an awesome writer!

Thank you again for reading my rant lol. Love you guys!

  1. I'm commenting as anonymous because I don't use any of the choices below, but I want to tell you who I am. I am Katherine Baran, of Cleveland, OH. A friend of my DIL posted your pic. It is absolutely horrible that folks make those kind of comments. You are lovely! The outfit you are wearing looks fantastic on you!
I really think that sometimes the folks who make ugly comments are the plain-Jane, no personality kind of women. THEY don't dare wear a style, so you shouldn't either. I'm a plus sized older woman and I'm too old for the kind of clothes the younger women wear, but I LOVE seeing a well dressed, stylish curvy woman! Just because you have curves is no reason to wear turtle necks and skirts to your ankles! Keep doing what you do and inspire other women to try it!

  7. I don't care what they think.. you slayed this outfit.. most plus size girls put themselves in a box and not dare to be them selves and break social stereotypes.. Of embracing ourbodies and showing our selves in a fashionable light. Most women cant even get that is even a body suit put together.. To me this is Pure Genius!! So F-em! Hence if they had soooo much fashion sense they wouldn't be following your fashion blog

  13. The beading on the dress is beautifully and detailed. The material is smooth and of high quality. It has "weight" to it. I cannot believe the deal I got!

  14. There's always gonna be those ones! Instead of uplifting you they would rather chop you down or do it subliminally by adding the be blessed. It's a shame women have to be like that toward one another!
